In this article, I am going to explain what WIX is and what it can do, and more importantly what it can’t do, and who WIX is good for, and finally give my final thoughts and conclusion.

If you are here reading this article then I am assuming you have somewhat of an idea of what WIX is, but rest assured for those that don’t I will still dive in deep to give you a proper overview.

For those that already have an idea of what WIX is, you can simply skip over that part and get to whether or not WIX is a good blogging platform.

The explanation of whether or not WIX is good for blogging might be more complicated than just simply giving you a simple yes or no answer which I will explain in this article.

So let’s get started.

What Is WIX?

Wix is one of the biggest if not the # 1-page builders on the market today as far as users are concerned.

This page builder is geared towards the newer marketer when it comes to designing a website.

The WIX page builder has an easy-to-use drag and drop page building interface to it that makes it super simple to use and is their main goal which obviously works.

With WIX you can design almost any kind of website that you can dream up with the use of its “what you see is what you get” type of interface.

And with WIX you don’t have to start from scratch because they have just about every template you can think of for almost all the industries you can think of including a blank slate if you think you got what it takes to design a page from scratch.

WIX also includes a ton of apps that will help you have almost any type of function you can think of that is sold extra through its app marketplace, which is fairly priced but you have a vast variety of options if you feel that it will help with your marketing efforts.

No coding is needed when designing a page with WIX.

WIX does come with a blog that you can blog from but the blogging platform it comes with is very basic and has limitations.

I think WIX is a great platform for someone just getting started because at the basic level is free, and you can design a beautiful-looking website without needing to be a technical person.

How Much Does WIX Cost?

Let me guide you through the available options!

First things first, Wix can be used entirely for free.

Yes, you don’t need to spend a dime.

The downside is that you won’t be able to use a professional domain name but rather a combination of your accountname.wix.com and your website name, which isn’t very pretty.

It may be good enough for personal projects though!

The “Connect Domain” plan lets you connect your own proper domain name, as you may have guessed.

It’s good to note that the domain name is not included and has to be purchased separately – which you can do through Wix, or any domain registrar, like Godaddy or Namecheap.

The downside with this plan is that it features Wix ads, and they aren’t exactly nice to look at.

That is why, instead, if you decide to start using WIX we’d recommend the Combo tier.

It shows no ads, includes a free domain name for one year, and gives you a decent amount of storage and bandwidth.

Oh, and in case you’re not sure if that’s enough, don’t worry, I’ll try to explain, 3 gigabytes of storage is the equivalent of roughly 1500 pretty large photos.

It’ll probably take some time until you’ve used it all up. In most cases, this should be more than enough.

In terms of bandwidth, let’s assume that each visitor will roughly consume megabytes with each visit.

2 gigabytes will then be enough for about 1333 visitors per month. If your website grows a little it’s possible that you’ll eventually surpass this limit.

But if you’re just starting out and it’s rather unlikely that you’ll hit the limit just yet.

You can be sure that WIX will inform you in advance about hitting the limit.

And that’s why if you decide to use WIX then it’s recommended to start out with the Combo plan unless you need e-commerce.

The Unlimited plan just adds additional storage and bandwidth.

Unless you already know that you’ll exceed the limits, I wouldn’t recommend it if you are just starting out.

If you’re going to start an online store, and only then, you’ll need the eCommerce plan. Remember, you can always upgrade later and won’t get charged twice.

The VIP plan includes everything the E-commerce plan has plus email campaigns through the Wix ShoutOut newsletter tool.

What’s more, it also includes a one-off “professional website review”.

If you’ve already tried, and liked the ShoutOut service, you could sign up for this plan. But keep in mind that there are plenty of external newsletter services that you can also use for free.

With that said, WIX is definitely worth trying out for free, and who knows, maybe you will fall in love with it?

Who Is WIX Good For?

Small Business

In the aspect of a small business, I would say WIX is best served for small businesses.

I also want to add that this answer is a bit more complicated than just keeping the demographic to the broad spectrum of smaller businesses that are out there, let me explain.

Say if you like WIX and used it in the past and want to use this platform for your business but want to hire someone to build a professional website with WIX, but the cost to hire someone would be around 1-2k total for that job.

Well if you look at the numbers and take into account for local marketing traffic that you would get from your website, to be honest, it most likely will be slim, but it will contribute to your total earnings.

Well if you take into account the web designer cost you will most likely not see a profit from your efforts after a year.

Bigger Business

This might be a great platform if your reach is not only local but a broader demographic area that you can drum up more traffic to get more sales.

By designing the perfect website from a professional designer that converts that traffic into sales, I would say this would be a great investment.

E-commerce

If your thing is selling your own products then this might be a great fit for you.

WIX has a ton of eCommerce templates that you can just customize your products from to get the sales you want.

Affiliate Marketing

This also can be a great tool to use, but if you start generating too much traffic, then you will want to upgrade your plan to cover more traffic. More traffic is never a bad thing, just need to learn how to monetize it even if you are not getting sales.

This might not be in your best interest and would most likely be in your best interest to focus on building the website by yourself.

The Beginner

Someone just getting started out and wants to just their feet wet with building out a site with one of the easiest platform landing page builders out on the market.

WIX would be a perfect platform to get started with.

The interface that WIX has is very simple to use that you can create almost any design you can think of.

What Can WIX Do – The Pros?

• You can use it for free. (with limitations)
• You can create a website for a local business.
• You can create a blog.
• You can create an eCommerce website.
• You can build a website with an intuitive drag-and-drop-visual editor.
• You can create landing pages.
• You can create capture pages.
• You can create product pages
• You can create video pages

Where Does Wix Lack – The Cons?

• You can’t take your site with you to host it on your own hosting.
• You can’t have more than one contributor so you will have to give someone your login credentials if you want someone to help with design or content.
• Blog with ease.

And those reasons don’t seem like much but say that there are functions that you need your site to do that WIX doesn’t offer but a different platform does, well you are out of luck.

You are pretty much bound by the functionality of what the WIX platform has and there is really nothing you can do about it.

Also say that you want to hire a web developer to help update your site to make it look better and more marketable for whatever reason, well you can only have 1 account so you will have to trust those workers to not mess anything up or even steal any data that you have within your account.

When I mention blogging, yes you can have a blog, but there are things that you can’t do within WIX that you can do with another blogging site like WordPress.

If you want to create content you need to go through multiple steps to get your new post up and running, with WordPress it’s as simple as creating a new post then create a Title and then start your content.

Is WIX a Hosting Site

There have been people asking this question around the web so I thought I would answer this.

If you were to ask if you can host your own domain like you would host your website on a hosting provider like Hostgator, Bluehost, or Siteground there is a bit of difference.

Let’s just use one mainstream example here as far a website hosting providers go and do a search on my website for WIX compared to Siteground.

With Siteground, you can have multiple domains added to one account on certain plans.

You can have multiple email accounts for each individual domain you have hosted on your Siteground account.

You can have multiple WordPress installations for each domain and sub-domain.

You can easily upgrade to a dedicated account which means that your website will be hosted on one single IP address and not shared with other websites on the same IP.

You can add scripts and code from the back-end of hosting providers like Bluehost.

With WIX you can’t do many of those functions, which doesn’t make it a true hosting account provider.

It’s true that your website will be hosted through WIX which they provide the servers for, but it’s not considered a dedicated hosting account provider.

I might go into this discussion deeper on a later article if this topic drums up enough interest, but hopefully, I answered that question for those that are asking it.

Is WIX Good For Blogging?

Well, this is what I am talking about.

Yes, you can create a blog with WIX but it’s a little bit of a process to create it.

While you have limits on the customization level that you can do with WIX, it is designed for non-developers in mind. You can definitely learn how to build a blog with WIX a lot faster.

WIX is a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) website and blog builder, so you can drag and drop paragraphs, pictures, slideshows, shopping cart buttons, etc directly into the website builder to start building your website. How you place this content in the website builder is how it will look when the site is published.

So with that said yes you can build a blog and it might seem a better choice on the surface, there are levels of customization that you can’t do like editing code.

The bigger your blog gets you are going to run into issues with growth just like all big blog sites.

And I can tell you that all major blog sites are hosted by the owner’s own hosting company.

I mean, basically, you can’t take your site anywhere, your site is basically held hostage by the WIX platform that it is on.

With that in mind, I can honestly say that it doesn’t sit very well for me, I like to be in total ownership of my site and do what I want with it whenever I want to do it.

I remember a time many years ago, I was using a free blogging platform in which I built a site out that was generating over 1000 hits per day and was generating a nice income.

Well someone came along (a competitor) and complained about my content and without any warning, my entire site was taken down and all my content was lost.

There was no way to back it up, and there was no way to move my content to another hosting because the site was built off of their platform so basically I was S.O.L.

So if you are truly wanting to make a business from your valuable blog content, sure, learn how to build sites and blogs through WIX, but don’t let it become one of your money sites.

I’ve learned my lesson, hope you never have to learn that lesson too.

My Final Thoughts About WIX Blogging

With my past experience and my personal thoughts about whether or not WIX is good for blogging or not they have some of the best support out of any of the page-building programs that are on the market as of right now.

And I might add that the program that I used many years ago in the past was not WIX and I haven’t heard of any horror stories about WIX and people losing their content over someone complaining or even a bad review about your content.

My personal opinion is that if you decide to use WIX as your blogging platform, I don’t think you will have much of any type of issue other than coming up with new content to write.

Is There A Better WIX Blogging Alternative?

In my opinion, absolutely!

Wix’s strong point isn’t for blogging, or blog creation although they have a blogging feature, it’s great, and they have a ton of beautiful templates, but it is definitely not one of its strong suits when compared to others.

Some of the better are alternatives as far as free are:

• WordPress (the free version on wordpress.com)
• Blogger (free, owned by Google and you can find it through your Gmail account)

And the beast of them all would be considered by all would have to be:

• WordPress

This would be considered the champion as far as competitors go when doing a side-by-side WIX vs WordPress challenge when comparing blogging platforms.

To set up this bad boy you will need to have your own hosting account like Hostgator, Bluehost, or my new personal favorite being Siteground.

Then with those hosting accounts, they will have what is called a cPanel with many options, you simply locate the WordPress icon or installer app, and click on that, and then simply follow the instructions that they give you.

If you get tired of your hosting account and want to move your website to another hosting account, you can do so with WordPress with a ton of free migration tools.

If you want developers to work on your site and only have access to the website files and not to your entire account, you can do so with WordPress.

If you want to create landing pages, capture pages, entire membership sites, and full sales funnels, you can do so with some of the best WordPress page builder plugins like OptimizePress and Thrive Architect.

WordPress has so many plugins that are similar to the WIX marketplace, that the possibilities are endless with many various solutions with so many developers contributing to the WordPress platform for free.

Of course, they have premium versions for themes and plugins, but some of them are well worth it for what they can do.

With the WordPress blogging platform, it is so vast as far as developers and design templates go.

The number of developers that WIX has is microscopic in comparison to WordPress.

And guess what, WordPress is absolutely free!

Conclusion?

So let’s get a few things straight when it comes to is WIX good for blogging.

As you read above, it’s a little more complicated to answer than a simple yes or no.

Yes, you can create several pages to create a blog-style type feel to it, but the simplified blogging style that a self-hosted WordPress platform has compared to WIX is simply a more powerful tool to use in comparison to WIX when wanting to use it for blogging.

So is WIX good for Blogging?

All I can say when compared to WordPress, go with WordPress.

But if it’s a page builder you are looking for, then you will have a good time creating websites and pages with WIX.

So if it is a blogging platform you are looking for then I would highly pick WordPress as your “Go-To” when you want to build a blog, especially if you’re building a blog for profit.

With that said, I just want to make it clear that WIX is an awesome landing page builder platform that has several professional and all-around uses including its blogging platform.

I am giving you my personal view, but after using it yourself compared to using WordPress or a different platform for blogging you might feel WIX is the best solution for you at this time and that is perfect.

The main thing that I always preach is to take action.

All I want is for you to have fun and don’t stress too much on this issue.

Can You Make Money With WIX?

Yes, you can make money with WIX in a few different ways.

The first and most direct way is to become an affiliate for WIX and refer people through its affiliate program to earn a commission.

Currently, WIX pays out $100 to its affiliates for each referral.

So with that said if you can find an angle to refer people from affiliate marketing to WIX and then they take advantage of one of the premium packages they pay you a one-time commission of $50.

With that said, I’ve done some analysis for the competition of people doing SEO and paid to advertise for key WIX keyword terms that people are searching for is very, very competitive and it will be extremely difficult to tap into that market when going the direct approach so if you are going to refer people I would suggest you go after those commissions in a different approach.

The next methods are to create sites to sell your own service or product by creating sales pages through the WIX platform.

Another way is to become an affiliate for other programs out on the market and create sales pages to promote those products that you are an affiliate through WIX to make referral commissions.

If you are a business owner, you can create a company website that highlights your services and promotes them locally or even nationally to earn commissions depending on what type of business you have of course.
