Welcome to my MyPoints review.
There are a ton of free programs out on the internet that gives you the ability to earn money.
You’ve got the paid surveys companies, the programs that pay you to read emails, watch videos, critique websites, and more.

With all the free money-making sites that are on the market for you to choose from, it can sometimes be overwhelming to know what the good ones from the scams are.
Some programs start off great, but after time they tend to become a program that was not as it was in the beginning due to several aspects or reasons out of the member’s control.
In this review, we are going to take a look at the free money-making program called MyPoints.
We are going to dig in and learn how it works, what it is, what they offer you, and how you can make money with it.
We are also going to take a look around the web and see what people are complaining about it, and see if it is a program that we would want to join and the kind of money that we are looking for that would be worth it.
With that said, let’s dig in and see what we can learn about it.
MyPoints Review – What Is It?

MyPoints is a website that offers the ability to earn rewards for doing various tasks.
The rewards that you earn will be in the form of points, those points that you earn for doing those tasks can be turned into cash or prizes.
Now, you are probably thinking, “how can I earn money and prizes for doing simple tasks, and is it really worth it”?
This is one of the main points that we are going to cover in our review, and by the end of this article, you will have every piece of information that you will need in order to make a decision on whether or not it’s worth it to you.
What Does MyPoints Offer?
The MyPoints opportunity is similar to other programs online that you can join for free and to certain tasks to earn money and gift cards, but they also give you an additional option that is different from the others.
Here is a breakdown of the 3 rewards you can earn with MyPoints:
- Gift Cards
- Cash
- Travel Miles
As you can see, if you are familiar with other “free to join” rewards programs, the travel miles are different than the others.
But What Exactly Can You Earn
When you are talking about cash, that is really straightforward and everyone knows what that is.
But how about what stores can you get a Gift Card to and how does the Travel Miles work?
Good question…
There are currently about 85 different ways that you can cash out your points into cash, gift cards, and travel miles.
When gift cards are concerned, you can cash out your points to earn a gift card to places like:
- Amazon
- Dell
- Bed Bath and Beyond
- Walmart
- and more…
So, what about the cash and Travel Miles, how do you receive those commissions?
Well, this is also paid out in the form of cash cards and vouchers.
When you want to cash your points out for actual money, you have the option to get a Visa prepaid card.
If you want to cash out your points for Travel Miles, you will have to choose a gift certificate for travel miles with American Airlines or United Airlines.
Other Ways To Earn
MyPoints also offers an additional way to earn in the form of grocery coupon deals.
One of the tasks that you earn points doing is by printing out coupons.
By printing out coupons, you are actually earning points and saving on grocery items that you may want to purchase at a later date.
You can actually call it a 2 for 1 deal.
They have over 80 different tasks that you can do to earn rewards which equal out to about the same amount of rewards you can choose from the points you earn.
Is MyPoints Legit or a Scam?

In this section of the review, we are going to go ahead and get this out of the way now and share our thoughts on whether or not MyPoints is a scam or not.
In short, no, MyPoints is not a scam and has been operating online legitimately for several years.
However, there have been many reports from users that from when the site was in its first years of operation, the rewards and functionality were much better.
Many claim that the program has taken a nosedive and is not what it used to be, which has many of the long-time users disappointed.
Some of the issues that I’ve gathered to be are:
- Poor customer support.
- Missing points.
- Accounts getting shut-down without warning or explanation.
So, in some of those aspects, some would say that MyPoints is a scam.
As far as us taking an approach to where they are operating legitimately and by the law, they seem to be legit.
But if they are holding back points, not paying people what is owed to them, or maliciously taking down accounts, then I would say that it is a scam, but then again, we do not have those facts to base our decision on.
Either way, it is free to join, and if you want to try it out for yourself, you can always create a free account here.

MyPoints Company Overview
The company is based out of Manhattan Beach, California in the United States of America.
Taken from the Better Business Bureau, we found that Nathan Sweet is the Manager, and Sha Fakiri is labeled as the General Manager.
Is MyPoints Accredited With The BBB?
No, MyPoints is not accredited with the Better Business Bureau at this time.
This company does have a listing on the BBB with some information that we were able to read.
At one time it looks like they did have accreditation with an A- rating but it seems like they didn’t care to respond to any complaints that were left on the BBB website itself.
Now, whether or not they responded to those complaints or issues independently is another story.
Here is some of the information that we were able to find on the BBB:
They had an “A-” rating.
Their BBB file was opened on 7-21-1998
There are 522 complaints listed with 249 closed.
Many of the complaints were because of the “product or service”.
For a full detailed report that we took this information from, you can visit the BBB website here.
How Does MyPoints Work?

In this section of the review, we are going to discuss how MyPoints works.
After you initially create an account, you will have options for tasks that you can choose from to earn points.
The most common way that MyPoints offer the ability to earn points is through paid surveys.
These are surveys that come from market research companies wanting to better their brand, products, and overall customer experience.
These are medium to larger companies that want a certain demographic of people to fill out these surveys to collect the data they need for improvements.
Step 1 – Getting Started
When you first sign up to MyPoints, you will be presented with a questionnaire about yourself that will have various questions.
Questions about yourself like:
- Your age
- Marital status
- Education
- If you have any kids and what ages
- Items you have in the house
- Some shopping habits
- etc…
This is the initial sorting process for the companies so that the companies can offer you surveys to fill out that match your demographic at some degree.
Once you are offered a survey, there will be additional questions that you will need to answer to further narrow down the requirement that they need in order for you to fully qualify and get paid for filling out the survey that is offered to you.
They do this because they are paying a fee to MyPoints and to you, and want a person that matches the demographics of the person they are looking for, so they don’t get bad data and end up throwing away money.
This is totally understandable in my eyes, but can be frustrating when you are a couple of minutes into a survey and get the dreaded “sorry, you don’t qualify message”.
Think about it, they don’t want a middle-aged man with no children answering questions about newborn baby supplies or breast pumps.
When MyPoints feels that you qualify for a survey they will send you an email about it, and it will also be in your back office.
Step 2 – Earning Points
When surveys are concerned, once you completely finish one of the surveys that you qualify for, you will then be awarded points.
Depending on the length of the survey will depend on the number of points each one is worth.
The longer the survey are of course worth more points.
Step 3 – Cashing Out Your Points
Once you earn enough points you can then take those points to cash out your points into gift cards, Visa prepaid cards, and even travel mile vouchers.

How Do I Make Money With With MyPoints?

In this section of the review, we are going to take a look at how you can actually make money with MyPoints.
There are several options that you have to earn points in the MyPoints opportunity that you can turn into a commission’s payout.
The mount per point is equal to $0.006 which is basically half a penny BUT those points can actually add up quickly.
Here is a breakdown of the ways that you can make money with MyPoints:
- Reading emails
- Shopping
- MyPoints Score
- Watching Videos
- Searching the web
- Printing coupons
- Playing games
- Referring friends
- Daily polls and surveys
- and easy points
Now I am going to go into more detail about what each way to make money with MyPoints works.
1. Reading Emails to Earn Points
Basically, this breaks down to the emails that MyPoints send you an open, and then when you click a link within the email is when you earn.
This is referred to as “BonusMail” after you sign up.
Every time that BonusMail hits your inbox and you open up the email and click on the link, you are awarded 5 points which equates to about $0.0035.
Now, if those emails come in through the truckloads that usually never happens, you are looking at making about 8 bucks an hour if you were to do the math.
One of the things that I would suggest to you is to sign up with an email that you don’t normally use that much or create a new one just for MyPoints because there are going to be a lot of emails that will be sent to you.
2. Shopping To Earn Points
MyPoints also gives you the ability to earn points when you make a purchase through one of the nearly 2,000 online retailers that they have within the program.
Basically, when you make a purchase through one of the retail online stored through the MyPoints shopping portal you will earn cashback that will be a percentage of the purchase price.
This is not going to beat the leading cashback deals that you can find online, but it will be another option that you will have.
If you are looking for a better option for cashback and rewards then I would highly suggest taking a look at my Swagbucks review.
Most of the cashback offer will give you a return on an average of about 7% through my research but is dwarfed by cashback shopping portals like Ebates which offer about 40%.
3. MyPoints Score To Earn Points
This is in conjunction with Shopping to earn points but different as to where when you actually make purchases you earn points.
This is a browser extension and app that you can add and shop through that will make the shopping experience much simpler and faster to get to rather than logging into your MyPoints account.
4. Watching Videos To Earn Points
You can also earn points by simply watching videos that MyPoints supplies to you.
You can’t just go to YouTube and watch a ton of videos and the company will reward you, you will have to watch the chosen videos through video task options they supply in your back office.
The videos will include a variety of different topics the range from celebrity news and gossip, to how-to videos that are usually from bigger networks.
I’m not sure it works anymore but one of the hacks was to do a different task like a survey in one tab in your browser window while watching videos.
You might want to test this out because I know that other platforms have fixed this to where you will not get credit if you are not on the actual window.
5. Searching The Web To Earn Points
MyPoints has an internal search engine like Google or Yahoo.
When you do searches using their browsing portal you will earn points.
The points you earn will not be much, but the more you do of course will add those small amounts of points that you do earn up.
You can actually bookmark the MyPoints search engine on any current browser that you use like Firefox or Chrome to get to quickly.
6. Printing Coupons To Earn Points
MyPoints also will give you coupons.
These coupons that you get, when printed out will earn you some points.
You can earn up to 10 points each time you print out some coupons that you can also use in your local store that will basically add up to additional savings.
This task is basically a 2 for 1 rewards deal that many members like to do.
7. Playing Games To Earn Points
Yup, MyPoints also has games that you can play within the program that when played will earn you points.
You have to stay playing these games for a certain period of time until you are awarded the points, but these games are put into the program to be tested by us users to basically “work out the bugs”.
So if you find a glitchy game, it is normal.
Some of the games are quite entertaining!
They usually have a great assortment, and if you are into games, this might be perfect for you to earn some additional points.
Again, these points are not worth much, but they do add up.
8. Referring Friends To Earn Points
Just like with all the other platforms that are similar to MyPoints, you can earn by referring your friends and family.
When you refer someone to the program, you will automatically earn 25 points for that referral.
When that person then goes on to spend $20 or more through the shopping portal you are then awarded an additional 750 points.
On top of that, you are also awarded a 10% match on any of the points they earn through the program.
There is no limit on the number of people that you refer to MyPoints.
9. Surveys and Daily Polls To Earn Points

This has to be the most rewarding way to earn points with MyPoints.
Like many of the other similar programs out there, they offer surveys that you can complete to earn points.
The points that you earn by doing surveys are one of the easiest tasks to do that reward you with the second-highest amount of points with your members that shop coming in the first place.
However, doing surveys to earn points has been proven to be the most consistent highest way to rack up your points.
For every survey that shows up in your email inbox, you are looking at earning on average 50 points.
The longer the survey will mean more, and the shorter it will mean less.
You have to remember that you must completely finish the survey which kind of becomes a complaint about many that we will discuss later on.
Daily Poll
On top of the surveys, a really easy way to earn points is by completing the daily poll the company emails out.
You will earn a certain amount of points for this and the amount will be listed each day.
10. Easy Points To Earn Points
The last way that you can earn points is through the “Easy Points” option that all members have.
There is a tab or link on the top-right corner in your back office.
This is where you will find advertisements that will ask you if you would like to save money on groceries or other items, and if you need a contractor for your home and other things.
You can simply click the “I don’t” button, and another link will appear that you can click to earn points.
This is only offered once per month, but you can earn an additional 5 points every time you click on that button.

How Does MyPoints Pay You?
You can actually redeem your points in a couple of ways.
- PayPal
- Gift Cards
- Airline Mile Vouchers
To redeem you simply have to go into your profile and points section.
Once there you can select the option that you want to redeem your points in.
When the Gift Cards are concerned, once you select the gift card that you want, it will be delivered in your email that you set up with MyPoints as a digital Gift Card.
Getting your Gift Card will take about 2 weeks to receive.
Paypal will take about a week to get deposited into your account.
Airline Mile Vouchers will take a similar time to get into your email inbox and will be delivered as a digital download as well.
You can easily use the digital Gift Cards for online purchases by using the number that is on the email for the gift card.
The same goes for Airline Vouchers.
If you are in a local store, an easy way to redeem the gift card is to show the gift card at checkout so the cashier can scan your Gift Card.
Some Of My MyPoints Pros
In this section of the review, we are going to cover some of the pros or things that I liked about MyPoints.
- The ability to make extra money
- It’s free to join
- Many tasks that you can do to earn money
- The ability to earn points by using their browser
Some My MyPoints Cons
In this section of the review, we are going to talk about some of the cons, or things that we didn’t really like about it.
- You can only join if you live in the USA or Canada
- Surveys seem to be offered in duplicate or more even if you have completed the survey once.
- You need a minimum of $25 to cash-out to PayPal which doesn’t seem like much but in reality, it takes around 4,500 points which is a lot.
- New ownership seems to have diluted the quality of the site.
- The customer support is not that great.
MyPoints Complaints

Just like many of the similar programs to MyPoints, there are always some complaints.
One of the main complaints that all of these programs have is not getting enough surveys that a member qualifies for.
The reason for this complaint is that many of the surveys that are offered, members are usually not qualified for with all the requirements that the companies want the survey taker to have.
But let’s take a look at some of the complaints that are more specific to the MyPoints program.
Here is a list of the complaints that MyPoints have:
- Many complaints on the lack of good customer support
- Not getting credited the points for some of the tasks
- Accounts getting terminated without warning or reason
- Complaints about low earnings
- Some complaints about constantly getting denied for surveys
- Some members complain about getting even blacklisted from doing surveys.
There seems to be a correlation of a rise in complaints when new ownership took over the program.
Maybe the technology that was being used is simply not being updated like it was before causing several technical issues.
Hopefully, this can get resolved soon, because when members are complaining about not getting credit for the tasks that they complete and even some of them have recorded for proof, then this can cause huge issues with the company’s trust.
If they can get some of these issues resolved, we will come back and update our MyPoints review.
With that said, let finish up.
