If you’re looking for a how-to setup Stripe for your affiliate marketing program tutorial, then you are in the right place!
I’ve noticed that there are not that many tutorials online that covers information on how to set up or connect a Stripe account with your member to member affiliate program so I decided to create a quick tutorial for you.
In this guide, I am going to give you a step by step tutorial on how to connect your Stripe account with your program, company, or product of choice.
I will also include a video overview of how to set it up.
How To Set Up Stripe For Affiliate Marketing Programs
One of the things that I first struggled with when I first got started in affiliate marketing programs that you can get your own payment processor set up was actually how to set up some of these payment processors simply because there is not currently any good guides.
I wanted to include this video so that you can have a visual of the steps and information on how to set up your Stripe correctly.
There has been some bad information on how to get things set up so I wanted to share with you only the correct information that will help keep your Stripe account from being suspended.
With that said, here is a video tutorial on how to set up your Stripe account to work with your affiliate marketing program after you intitailly created your Stripe account in step #1 below.
I hope that the video helped.
If you need further instructions, I have included a step by step guide on how to set up your Stripe account to work with any affiliate marketing program that you choose to work with.
This will also work for any service or any product that you want to sell online.
Step 1 – Create A Stripe Account
The first step is to create your free Stripe account.
If you haven’t already created your free Stripe account, click on the button below to get started.
Step 2 – Activate Your Stripe Account
When you are logged in to your Stripe account, you will see some steps that Stripe wants you to do in the middle of your Dashboard.
The most important step to get started is the “Activate Your Stripe Account”.
Ignore the rest at this time!
When you click on the link to activate your Stripe account, you will be presented with questions to fill out.
Refer to the video above to complete this step.
The most important fields that you want to focus on is the “business website” field.
You only want to enter your OWN website in that field OR a Personal Facebook page URL that you setup and paste that URL in the business website field.
When you create your FB page, name it something like “YOUR NAME Business”. (something generic)DO NOT use the website address URL for the program that you are promoting!
Remember, this is YOUR own payment processor that you can use for anything at any time for any program or anything else that you want to sell online in the future!
Step 3 – Submit Your Application
When you are done filling out all of the information, you are required to click on the 2-step verification process.
The way that I have it set up is with my cell phone.
Click on the “Get Text Message” button at the bottom of the 2 step authentication section that you are on and it will ask you for your cell phone number.
Enter your cell phone number and then wait for a text message from Stripe.
Stripe will send you an SMS text message and then enter the numbers that Stripe texted you into the authentication field where it asks you to enter those numbers.
Click on the “confirm phone number” button and then on to the next step.
The last step to submit your application is to click on the Submit your Application button at the bottom of the application page.
Step 4 – Grab and Paste Your API Keys
Refer to the image above and below for this step.
The next step is to grab your public API key and then paste it into the public API field in your program, company, websites “public API key” field area of your affiliate marketing program.
The second step is to copy your secret key and paste it into the secret or private field API key field in your affiliate marketing program.
IF you don’t see your LIVE API Keys link on your Dashboard how it appears in the above image, you can always navigate to your LIVE API Keys using the left navigation, clicking on Developers, and then click on the API Keys link directly under the Developers link.
Here is a screenshot of how your API Keys will look on this page:
That’s it, you are done, but make sure to test it!
Step 5 – Test
After you have everything connected between your Stripe account and the affiliate program that you are connecting it with, the next step is to test your payment button.
If the program itself has a payment test button, then this is the easiest way to test.
Just make sure that when you click on the payment button a payment box pops up.
This is what the Stripe payment box will look like:
If the program DOES NOT have a payment test button, then you can simply just grab your OWN affiliate link and then create a FAKE account through your affiliate link using a “Private” or “Incognito” window in the browser of your choice, like Chrome or Firefox.
So, first is to grab your affiliate link, then if you are using Chrome, then open up an Incognito window. (I’ve included an image below)
Then once you open up an Incognito window, paste your affiliate link into the browser URL address bar.
Then go through the steps and create a bogus and FAKE account using a fake email, fake name, fake, password, etc.**Just remember to write down or save the username, email, and password that you use to sign up for future reference.
When you are in your fake account that is under your real account, then proceed to try to pay yourself to sign up.
When you click on the payment button that your system has, and a payment popup box appears or “pops-up” on your screen similar to the image below, then you know your payment button is working and you can now rest assured that you are connected to your stripe account correctly.
The image for the Stripe payment form popup will look similar to the image above in this same section.
Now, let’s say that you grabbed your API keys and then made a mistake pasting them where they need to go into your program or company that you are trying to tie your Stripe payment processor too.
You then try to go back into your Stripe Dashboard and try to grab your API keys again but your entire “Secret” key is not appearing, or the system is not letting you grab the entire key, only a small portion of it.
Well, this will not work for you, so you will have to create new API keys.
I noticed this happening to some of the newer accounts so be aware that this can happen, but don’t worry there is a simple fix.
All you have to do is click on the Developer tab on the left navigation, then click on API keys.
When you are on the API keys page, what you will want to do is click on “Create Secret Key” in the Standard Keys section.
Make sure it is under the Standard Key section and not under Restricted Key section or Test Keys.
Simply click on the Create Secret Key button and then name your key.
I would name it something generic like “Key 2” for example.
Once you do that, you will have created new working keys that you will see on the page and the system will now let you grab both the public and secret API key.**Make sure to save your keys in a notepad file this time so that if you do make a mistake you can just copy and paste your keys from your saved notepad file.
If you didn’t save your keys, and you still can’t access your secret key, then all you will have to do is create new keys by following the process above.

My Final How To Setup Stripe For Affiliate Programs Thoughts
The final thoughts that I would have about your initial Stripe set up process are to use a URL that has an SSL certificate.
Also, you don’t EVER want to use the website address of the program or company that you are working with for the business website when you are filling out your application!
Here is a question that pops up for me sometimes that I want to address before I finish up.
What If My Stripe Account Got Suspended?
What I would do is create a new email address and use another phone number that can receive text messages to create a whole new Stripe account.
Do not ever “link” your old account with your new one or vise versa.
Now, I never had to create a new account because my Stripe account never was suspended (knock on wood), but if I had to create a new one, these steps are what I would do to get back into action.
With that said, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial on how to set up Stripe for Affiliate Marketing programs and other things that you would need a payment processor to accept online payments.
